February 16, 2021: Md. taxes may be offset by diaper, feminine hygiene donation

A Maryland bill would allow deductions of up to $1,000 from state income tax for donations of diapers or feminine products to a qualified charitable organization starting in tax year 2021. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, there is a heightened demand for diapers and feminine hygiene products, which are typically the first items to be out of stock at distribution centers, advocates said. HB711, a bill cross-filed with SB622, incentivizes Marylanders to donate these essential items.

February 13, 2021: Bill proposes tax credits for donations to diaper banks

There’s a proposal in Maryland that would grant tax credits to those who donate to diaper banks across the state. The bill was introduced last month in Maryland’s House, and a hearing on the matter was held this past Thursday in front of the Ways and Means Committee. “The tax credit would be for any donor who contributes up to $1,000 to a diaper bank in Maryland or other charitable organizations for diapers or … certain hygiene essentials,” said Lavita Gardner with Maryland Diaper Bank.

december 17, 2020 :Maryland Diaper Bank Gives the Best Gift of the Season to Moms Through Partnership with UM Charles Regional Medical Center

Maryland Diaper Bank (MDB) has partnered with UM Charles Regional Medical Center’s (CRMC) Labor and Delivery Unit to deliver their Mommy Postpartum Boxes to local moms.  MBD is a nonprofit organization founded in 2018 that provides basic diaper needs to stimulate health, growth, and good hygiene for babies in Maryland.

It’s a rare family that doesn’t struggle financially from time to time. Then there are those that struggle all the time. Shelly Tucker, a mother and Charles County resident, was motivated to support struggling families when the 35-day federal government shutdown of 2018-2019 kicked her plans into overdrive giving birth to the Maryland Diaper Bank.

On January 9th, 2020, Maryland Diaper Bank Founder, Shelly Tucker will provide an oral testimony to the Maryland Senate Budget and Taxation Committee in support of a sales and use tax exemption on infant and toddler diapers, a bill presented by Senator Clarence Lam.
